MINQUIZ

Mrs Susan Roberts with the team

Minquiz is South Africa’s premier annual national Science competition for Grade 12 learners organised by Mintek. Mintek is a National Science Council specialising in mineral and metallurgical technology.  Minquiz aims to encourage interest in careers in science, engineering and technology via a fun and informative curriculum-aligned competition.

This year PHSG entered the Platinum Category. The entrants were Liang Yu, Nicola Williams and Claudia Hetzler, who each first had a 45 minute individual test (without calculators or the Periodic Table). There were 50 schools taking part in the first part of the competition. The second part of the competition was an oral quiz for the top five schools. We were placed first and are now the 2009 Gauteng Minquiz champs. The same quiz was run in all the other provinces.

The top three candidates from the individual tests are selected to represent their province at the national quiz which is to be held on 23 and 24 July Liang Yu was chosen as one of the three Gauteng representatives.

The quiz will also be featured on E.TV on 30 June at 15:30 in a programme called Frenzy.

Congratulations to our three representatives, we are very proud of you. Our good wishes go to Liang for the national competition!
