D4 Basketball League 2009

The league got off to a rocky start, with some schools not receiving the fixtures in time and resulting in games having to be postponed and so forth.
However this was quickly resolved and the league ran smoothly from then on.  All PHSG Basketball teams participated in the league; this included 2 teams per age group, in total we had 6 teams playing this year.  It was particularly tough for the B teams as this year the "B team section" was dissolved, meaning all B teams played in the same pools as the A teams which proved to be challenging and somewhat intimidating for some.  I do believe however that by playing against stronger teams, players learn a lot and build strong team spirit.

Our teams played very well this year, the u/14A team came 3rd overall, a remarkable achievement for this team of young players, many of whom only learned how to play the sport this year.  They can definitely be proud of themselves! Our u/16A team also came 3rd this year and although it was a disappointing result for them, I trust they have learned valuable lessons from this and will see the importance in team work and mental focus.  The 1st team defended their title well; although there were a few hiccups along the way all in all they played brilliant basketball when it mattered most.  They are one of the strongest teams I have ever had the privilege of coaching. They have amazing individual talent and when they come together as a team the result is simply magic! I am incredibly proud of all the teams and every single player, for always giving of their best and for being impeccable ambassadors of the school.

Individual awards were awarded to the following players:
