PHSG’s first ever movie night took place on 11 May. The Greatest Showman was played on a big screen which was erected on the soccer field. Over 1200 people braved the cold with blankets, sleeping bags and hot water bottles.
The unexpected turnout meant long queues at the food stalls which sold boerewors rolls, pregos and a variety of treats including popcorn. Coffee and hot chocolate were also a firm favourite on the night. The wait for food did nothing to dampen the excitement of those attending with PHSG learners pleading for another movie night in the near future.
The Parents’ Association, who had organised the event to raise money for the Choir to attend the World Choir Games, were delighted with the success of the evening. They have promised to hold another one, and now that they know how well it will be attended, will do their best to rope more parents into helping out at the stalls. Funds from the next movie night will be used for a different project with the hope that over time they will be able to make a notable contribution to various school activities.
