Certificates of Outstanding Achievement in Drama were awarded to the following highly deserving students:

  • Chabi Thelingwani: In Clarendon's play, Chabi played the role of Sipho, a poor boy who lacks ambition, falls in love with the girl next door and learns everything he needs to make himself a success. Chabi's portrayal of Sipho was absolutely flawless. This outstanding performance also earned Chabi the House Play Award of Best Actor in a Leading Role for 2018.

  • Gundo Sithi: Gundo played the role of the terrifying Dr Gwababa in Van Zyl's House Play. Her performance was absolutely spot-on and she eventually earned herself the House Play Award for Best Villain.

  • Alexia Schoeman: Alexia played the leading role this year in Connaught's play. This role required Alexia to stay on stage throughout the entire play, dealing with the strangest of characters hopping in and out of her Uber, all the while pretending to drive a car that consisted of little more than a floating steering wheel. Not only was Alexia's performance what we call in the theatre world a “tour de force”, but her commitment to her role and the play knew no limits. Whilst up against many other girls in the same category, who are all much older than her, this Grade 8 won the House Play Award of Best Actress in a Leading Role 2018. She was also named the Most Promising Newcomer to Drama of 2018.
