From Sunday, 23 September to Tuesday, 25 September, Pretoria High School for Girls hosted the famous Four Schools’ concert at Pretoria Boys High School. AHS, AHMP, PBHS and PHSG were the participating schools.
During the first half, each school was given the opportunity to showcase their orchestra and choir. The singers in the choirs lifted their hands and danced on stage, embracing each performance. The orchestras from each school performed well known pieces such as the Harry Potter theme song and a famous song from the Phantom of the Opera. Girls' High shone with their performance of the “Pirates of the Caribbean Medley”. After each school had performed, there was a short interval where tea, coffee and juice were served.
The second half of the show consisted of mass items. Grade 10 to 12 learners from each school participated in the combined orchestra. The mixed choir consisted of approximately 400 singers. There were 8 performances, each presented by a different conductor. Each performance was unique and special, and the uplifting music made the concert unforgettable. Mrs Hohls conducted the catchy “Grease Melody” and Mr Gericke conducted “Hands of Man”. “O Fortuna” was the last orchestral item and received a standing ovation.
This year's concert was dedicated to Frau Brigit du Toit. She was an impeccable leader and her contribution to the traditional Four Schools concert is greatly treasured.
