The World Robot Olympiad (WRO) is a global robotics competition for young people with the aim of aiding the youth to develop and strengthen critical and creative thinking and enhance social skills.
PHSG entered two teams of three pupils for the “soccer challenge” (which is one of the five challenges the WRO offers.) Because we are true Girls' High girls, both teams immediately sprang into action and used every moment to plan and refine.
“I feel anxious, yet excited about this competition!” said Amber, one of the team members. “I remember last year: it was hectic and fun – basically, an adventure I wanted to relive again.”
There are five provincial competitions: Kwa Zulu Natal; Western and Northern Cape and then two in Gauteng. All competing teams are ranked and from this list, the top 10 to 15 teams are invited to attend and compete in the final National Event in Gauteng. Teams winning categories here might be invited to represent South Africa at the WRO international event.
For now, we are focusing on the regional event happening later in 2018.
