During February 2018, Charnè Griesel participated in the Judo SA trails held in Port Elizabeth and obtained first place for both Juniors (U21) and Seniors.
Charnè was selected for the Judo National Team to participate in the African Judo Junior Championships held in Bujumbura, Burundi from 10 to 13 May 2018. Fourteen African countries participated in the championship and Charnè was placed 3rd overall in her weight category. She also participated in the team event and her team was placed 3rd in this event.
In the Tunis Juniors African Cup, held in Tunisia on 22 April 2018, it was her first time participating internationally as a junior and she was placed 5th overall. Thirteen African countries participated in the event.
The SA Judo Championships were held in Port Elizabeth, from 1 to 7 July 2018 and Charnè participated in the Juniors (U21) and Seniors age groups. In the junior category she won gold and in the Senior category she placed second. She also participated in the team event and her team placed 2nd in this event.
Charnè has been selected by Judo SA to participate in the Judo Worlds Championships to be held in Nassau, Bahamas from 17 to 21 October 2018 and further selected by SASCOC to participate in the 2018 AUSC Region 5 Games, to be held in Gaborone, Botswana from 7 to 12 December 2018.
