The DITSONG Museums of South Africa (DMSA) will be celebrating Paul Kruger and Nelson Mandela as men who contributed to the building of South Africa. As part of the remembrance they have included the Department of Arts and Culture's sports theme for October, which represents Nelson Mandela as a sportsman.
Grade 9 and 10 PHSG learners were invited to contribute to making history by signing the DMSA's Health Charter. The Charter aims to contribute to nation building and will be a platform for honouring Nelson Mandela's passion for sport. The Charter was developed into a scroll and will be exhibited together with the Philadelphia Scroll in the Kruger Museum in October.
The DMSA Health Charter embraces the following:
We, as children, commit ourselves on this day of 10 October 2018 to the following:
· To follow in the footsteps of the greatest humanitarian of all time, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
In honouring the legacy of Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu, a woman of fortitude, we commit to the following values and principles:
· To respect others.
· To be kind to others.
· To forgive others.
· To be selfless.
· To put others first.
· To value life through healthy living by
participating in sports.
