On Saturday the 15th of September, the South African Institute of International Affairs hosted their annual SAIIA Johannesburg Model UN Competition and PHSG had three teams taking part.
In a gathering of the UN Women, Meagan Picton, Lehlogonolo Letshela and Eunbin Kang represented the country of Kenya in a debate on the topic of the State of Women in 2018.
In a gathering of the UN Office for Disarmament, Jo-Anne Mahlobo, Omolemo Matseke and Mihlali Mafenuka represented the People's Republic of China in a debate on the topic of Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, where one of our Old Girls, Joyce Bongongo served as the Chairperson.
And in a gathering of the UN Security Council, Tshegofatso Matlou, Malengete Ngoatje and Bonolo Moikanyane represented the United States of America.
All our girls did exceptionally well. At the end of the very gruelling day, despite the severe pressure of representing a country like the USA in a committee as complex as the UNSC, Tshegofatso Matlou walked away with a golden trophy for being voted by the adjudicators as the 1st Best Speaker in her entire committee.
Well done, Tshego!
